Welcome to Election Monday!!!
I am sorry I can't be with you all today. I am home sick, but fairly certain I will be healthy enough to return tomorrow. I expect each of you to be respectful toward our substitute teacher and responsive toward today's lesson.
Today we will be examining political cartoons, and the role these cartoons play in our political process. As a means to warm up, let's discuss a few questions and examine a few cartoons. Please go to Cartoon # 1.

Does the artist use exaggeration? Explain.
What is the artist's political statement? What is the main idea?
Is this an effective cartoon? Explain.

European Explorers: Discoverers or Conquerors?
While the question is provocative and forces each of us to examine our personal point of view, I think it is helpful to examine exploration with a critical lens and from multiple perspectives.
BIG QUESTIONS
Why do people explore?
What would lead you to risk your life to explore a foreign land?
What can happen to a culture when it is exposed to another culture?
Is the exchange of culture always positive?
